An AI coding competition for students aged 11+

Powered by Canva | Part of AIDUCATION’26 | Hosted by the Cambridge School of Bucharest

What is Create. Code. Change?

Create. Code. Change is a global competition inviting student teams to design app ideas that support one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. No coding experience is needed. Using Canva’s AI-powered tools, students will describe what they want their apps to do, and the technology will help them bring those ideas to life.

This is creative problem-solving supported by AI, not restricted by it.

Why now?

With vibe coding named Collins’ Word of the Year 2025, students are growing up in a world where you do not need to write traditional code to be a builder. You just need an idea, a goal, and the right tools. This competition encourages students to think critically, use AI responsibly, and design with purpose.

Who can enter?

  • Open to students aged 11 and up

  • Schools from any region can take part

  • Entries must come through a participating school

Schools can register more than one team. Ideal team size is between 3 and 6 students.

How does it work?

  • Schools register and receive the Create. Code. Change Pack

  • Students explore a challenge through the design thinking process

  • Teams use Canva Code to create their app concept

  • Final projects are submitted for judging

  • Winners will be invited to present their ideas at AIDUCATION’26

If a winning team is not able to attend the event, their work will still be showcased during the programme.

The deadline to submit final projects is Friday 31 January 2026.

What kind of apps?

Each team chooses one Sustainable Development Goal to focus on. Their app idea should aim to address or raise awareness about that issue. It could support climate action, promote education, improve access to healthcare, or anything else connected to global challenges.

Apps do not need to be fully functional. Judges are looking for strong thinking, clear purpose, and effective use of the tools.

What will judges look for?

  • Creative and original ideas

  • Clear connection to the chosen SDG

  • A well-explained concept with real-world impact

  • Smart use of Canva Code

  • Potential for change
