At Cambridge School of Bucharest, Economics is not simply another subject on the timetable – it is a discipline that inspires our students to think critically about the world around them and equips them with the skills to shape the future. Year upon year, our students demonstrate an impressive grasp of economic concepts, consistently excelling both in the classroom and in international arenas. Their achievements are a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing analytical thinkers, responsible citizens, and confident leaders.
Building Foundations: Financial Literacy from Primary to Secondary

One of the cornerstones of this success is our Financial Literacy programme, a unique initiative that stretches from Primary right through to Secondary. What makes it truly remarkable is that it was originally conceived and designed by our own Economics students. With a keen awareness of the challenges facing young people today, they created a curriculum to teach younger peers the importance of saving wisely, investing thoughtfully, and understanding the potential dangers of online theft and impulse buying.
This forward-thinking approach not only provides younger pupils with essential life skills but also fosters a culture of mentorship. Older students take great pride in guiding the next generation, while younger ones benefit from relatable role models who understand their perspectives. In this way, Financial Literacy at CSB is more than an academic exercise, it is a vibrant example of our school’s values in action, promoting responsibility, confidence, and a sense of belonging across year groups.
A Subject of Choice: AS and A Level Success

Economics has become one of the most consistently chosen subjects at both AS and A Level, reflecting the enthusiasm of our students and the strength of teaching in the department. Many students find themselves drawn to the subject not only because of its relevance to current events but also due to the way it sharpens problem-solving skills and encourages debate.
At these advanced levels, students delve deeper into topics such as market structures, economic development, globalisation, and monetary policy. Their willingness to embrace these complex ideas demonstrates a maturity beyond their years. Time and again, our students achieve outstanding results, securing grades that reflect their diligence and intellectual curiosity.
Competing on the World Stage

The reputation of CSB’s Economics students extends far beyond the school gates. Every year, our young economists attend prestigious international competitions, where they put theory into practice and test their skills against the best students from around the globe. These experiences are invaluable, not only in developing technical expertise but also in building resilience, teamwork, and global awareness.
In the summer of 2025, three of our exceptional students – Andreea, Iris, and Carla – represented the school at the International Economics Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan. Their performance was nothing short of inspiring, with two of them receiving honourable mentions. Their success underscored the depth of talent within our student body and highlighted their ability to think critically under pressure.
Just a few weeks later, in July, the same trio were joined by Iulia at the Australasian Economics Olympiad in Sydney, Australia. Together, the four students achieved an extraordinary result, winning gold for their economic policy design. Competing at such a high level requires not only academic knowledge but also creativity, collaboration, and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. Their triumph in Sydney is a moment of pride not only for them but for the entire CSB community.
What stands out most about these students is not just their accolades, but their genuine passion for Economics. They have consistently achieved top grades in the subject, demonstrating both intellectual rigour and an eagerness to go beyond the classroom. Their drive and curiosity have set a benchmark for others to follow, while their contributions to the Financial Literacy programme reflect their desire to give back to their peers.
A Legacy of Success

The achievements of our Economics students are part of a broader legacy at CSB. Each year, more pupils are inspired to pursue the subject, whether their ambitions lie in finance, international relations, entrepreneurship, or academia. The skills developed through Economics – critical analysis, data interpretation, ethical reasoning, and global awareness – are invaluable in any career path.
Equally, the success of initiatives like our Financial Literacy curriculum demonstrates how student-led ideas can flourish within our school environment. It is a reminder that education is not simply about knowledge transfer but about empowering young people to take ownership of their learning and to influence their community.
Looking Ahead

As we look towards the future, Cambridge School of Bucharest remains committed to nurturing the economists of tomorrow. By offering a rigorous curriculum, providing platforms for international recognition, and encouraging student-driven innovation, we ensure that our pupils leave school equipped not only with excellent grades but with the vision and skills to make a difference in the world.
At CSB, Economics is more than a subject – it is a pathway to shaping responsible, creative, and globally-minded citizens. In celebrating the achievements of our students today, we are indeed shaping the economists of tomorrow.
