Choosing the right curriculum is one of the most important decisions a family can make for their children’s education and future. From academic structure and subject choice to personal development and university pathways, the curriculum shapes how students learn, grow, and prepare for life beyond school.
In this Parent Q&A, Silvia, a parent of two secondary students at Cambridge School of Bucharest, shares why her family chose the British Curriculum and how it has supported her sons academically, socially, and culturally.
Q: Why did you choose the British Curriculum?
We chose the British Curriculum because it offers a structured and rigorous academic pathway. We appreciate that it encourages independence in learning and gives students clarity regarding expectations and progression. For our sons, we felt this system would prepare them well for university, future careers and personal development.
Q: What difference do you notice in how your child learns?
They have developed their critical thinking and the ability to organise themselves efficiently for study. We have also noticed that they have strong confidence in communicating openly and respectfully with both teachers and peers; the school, in particular, is encouraging them to express their opinions. The regular assessments and examinations also help them keep knowledge fresh and stay disciplined.
Q: How does the British Curriculum support your child’s future?
The British Curriculum provides clear pathways toward higher education. The most important aspect that made us chose Cambridge School of Bucharest is that high school students have the opportunity to select from a wide variety of subjects they are most passionate about and study them in depth. This allows them to specialise earlier and build a strong academic profile. We have observed that this approach prepares them very well for applying to university programs that are aligned with their career ambitions.
Q: Do you still feel your child is connected to Romanian culture?
Yes, we do feel that our sons remain connected to Romanian culture. We truly appreciate that the school celebrates Romanian cultural moments, historical and important figures. This not only benefits Romanian students, but also introduces international students to Romania in a meaningful and engaging way. We especially enjoy the fact that the House System is named after representative Romanian figures, beautifully displayed inside the school — it creates visibility and a sense of belonging for Romanian students and teachers.
Q: Looking back, are you happy with your decision?
Yes, we are very happy with our decision. Our sons have a great benefit and advantage from following the British Curriculum and CSB, in particular. We know it has enlarged their opportunities, strengthened their academic skills and personal growth.
Silvia’s experience highlights the clarity, flexibility, and strong academic foundations offered by the British Curriculum at Cambridge School of Bucharest. From fostering independence and critical thinking to providing clear pathways to higher education, the curriculum supports students in developing both confidence and ambition.
At CSB, families value not only academic rigour, but also a strong sense of belonging—where international education and local culture are thoughtfully brought together. For Silvia and her family, the British Curriculum has proven to be a decision that continues to support their children’s academic success and personal growth, both now and for the future.
