High School

Students receive full-time education that is suited to their age, ability, aptitude and special educational needs.

For students aged 14-16 we organize I.G.C.S.E courses which require both internal assessment (coursework) and examination – external assessment.

Assessment of I.G.C.S.E is usually done by external assessment and coursework, with the balance towards external examination.

Coursework provides plenty of opportunity for students to demonstrate what they know and can do.

The assessment criteria are made clear to the students (50% exam grades; 25% class participation; 25% projects, homework, research work ).

Grades are based on the merits of projects and in-class participation as well as final exams.

We provide students with a copy of the assessment criteria and discus it with them.

We are explicit about what a student needs to do to improve the quality of his/her work.

This can be done both as a whole class exercise, using a piece of work from a past student and in the teacher’s response to an individual student’s piece of work.

The coursework tasks are set by the teachers and them approved by the awarding body for non-Cambridge students and by teachers according to the guidance in the specification. Teachers assess the students’ work against the marking criteria distributed by Director of Students. External assessment process regards the examination papers which are externally assessed.

Any “mock” examinations are “internal” and are set by the school and are based on past examination papers.

We usually have a mock examination in the spring-term.

All teachers have the assessment criteria and use them to help students in their learning. Our students are assessed by Curriculum Tests at the end of each grade and by levels of achievement acquired at I.G.C.S.E level. Having completed I.G.C.S.E’s our students have a choice to continue with further education, AS and A level in a wide range of subjects: English language and literature, Geography, Human Biology, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, IT.

Our students are assigned to a member of a school who serves as adviser to a small group of students. The teacher responsible assists students with choosing and registering for appropriate coursework to ensure progress towards the desired grades.

Our students will spend approximately 30 hours per week in class or lab setting.

In addition students spend about 10h/per week in reading and writing to prepare for class-time. Teachers expect students to keep up with assignment and to participate actively in classroom discussion.

We offer Lebanese Baccalaureate which is authorized by the Embassy of Lebanon in Bucharest, and functions under the auspices of the Embassy.

It is also recognized by the Ministry of Education in Lebanon, by the Foreign office in Lebanon and Romania (with the equalization of the following exams: Romanian language and History or Geography of Romania). The equalization can be sustained in any Romanian High-School.
